Locust and Honey

Mark 1:1-8 reads:
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the Prophets: “Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.” “The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.’ ” John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. And he preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

It seems that if John the Baptist were walking the world today, preaching the return of Christ, he would find himself in the wilderness again.

He would find himself unwelcome in most churches. Instead of welcomes, he would be greeted with scorn, debates, and rejection. People would accuse him of judging, they would argue their right to sin, and they would challenge his authority to preach God’s message.

Yet here we are today. Jesus is coming, but His church is more concerned with fulfilling their own desires.

The concepts of “Lord” and “God’s Will” are foreign in a nation of people who have forsaken the fundamentals of “one nation under God”. We sing “God Bless America,” but we booted Him out of our country. In a place where people believe that to be American is to be Christian, the lines are blurred and people are in bondage to sin without even knowing it.

I have accepted the call to be a John in this world. Jesus is coming, and it is time to repent. The church needs to call sin “sin”, and preach Jesus. Those who call themselves “christian” need to turn from the cares of the world, and focus on the call of God.

It is time for a line to be drawn in the sand, so that those who are hurting and going into eternity without Christ will be able to see the difference, that is found through Jesus’ Blood.

The Lord is calling His own to shed the excessive fluff, that hinders them, from doing His will, and it is time to make the way for the Holy Spirit to move through us as He sees fit.

I am encouraging you to strongly consider these words before time is up.

The last thing you want is to have the bridegroom come by, while you are out looking for oil…
