Politics and Faith – This title will keep you from reading this post…

As the election year for president is coming upon us, I am once again confronted with the conundrum of who to vote for.

As a born again believer, my faith is at the core of who I am. It will never be shaken by the words of men, and the truth of scripture is never up for debate.

To me, when something is your core, it will be the foundation of everything you build. Sure the mess of life will sometimes try to smear you with a thin veneer of worldly filth, but it won’t stick too long.

So here I am, with a solid spiritual core, trying to look past the thin veneer of politics and see the core of those who are vying for my vote. It ain’t pretty.

How do you determine who has your best interests at heart, when everyone has a secret personal agenda?

You stick with the one who is at your core, and to me that is The Lord God Almighty Jesus who is The Christ. I mean, who was the last politician to die for you so that you could be free?

I want God and His values back in this country. Not the god that people quote to satisfy their own secret personal agenda, and definitely not the gods of people’s whims and lusts. Those gods of political correctness and greed are not who God (the creator of the universe) is.

There was a time when this country based its laws on Scripture and the heart of God. But when God was kicked out of schools, the Ten Commandments were removed, and value for human life was set to zero, we basically made the same mistake that Israel did when they asked for a king in 1 Samuel 8:1-22

God warned us that, “This will be the behavior of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them for his own chariots and to be his horsemen, and some will run before his chariots. He will appoint captains over his thousands and captains over his fifties, will set some to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and some to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots. He will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers. And he will take the best of your fields, your vineyards, and your olive groves, and give them to his servants. He will take a tenth of your grain and your vintage, and give it to his officers and servants. And he will take your male servants, your female servants, your finest young men, and your donkeys, and put them to his work. He will take a tenth of your sheep. And you will be his servants. And you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and the Lord will not hear you in that day.”

There is a truth that people get leaders after their own hearts. And the truth of this is so heightened now more than ever. God is so far out of this country, that I barely see Him included in the decision process (though people love to misquote His Word while pushing their own personal agendas to the spotlight).

What do you expect? Look at the core of this country. God is out, His Word is out, images referencing Him are out, persecution of His people is up, the value of human life is down in the dirt, while the worship of money is through the roof.

People downplay His Word saying that it was written to control people, while they look to men whose politics is all about control. The Scripture (that never changes) has been replaced by political correctness (that changes with every news report). At the same time God is called a control freak, He is blamed for allowing everyone a free will. They can’t believe His Story on events that happened, but they will believe that we came from monkeys millions of years ago. Things and symbols that remind us of Him are offensive, but we can stomach a possessed person entertaining us during a halftime show.

His people are persecuted as being angry and evil, while embracing those who would behead and rape those intolerant of their “religion of peace.” We are called hateful for wanting to stop a mother from killing her child, while the world is against a starving person who is eating a dog. People are embracing grace and mercy for themselves, while reserving a “special place in hell” for others who offend them. Those who help others are regulated and fined, while the narcissistic people use what was intended to lift the downtrodden, to boost their own personal power.

I feel like I am back in the playground at school, while the bullies run amuck attacking those that they perceive as weak. Then when you have had enough to beat off the bully, you are labeled by the administration as one with anger issues.

All this is because God has been removed, and men are idolized.
We have replaced a perfect loving God who died for our freedom, for one who is just like us… One who is evil, selfish, greedy, murderous and indifferent to the pain and suffering of others (unless it is a way for us to get a little bit.)

So like every year, I am putting my candidate on the ballot, and His name is Jesus who is The Christ. After all, when America is a long distant memory, His Kingdom will still be the greatest nation in the universe.
