The Corrupt Church

As these End Times seem to be quickly upon us, I feel compelled to look at The Seven Letters to The Seven Churches as written in the Book of Revelation.

The point of this, is strictly for personal evaluation, but I may reflect on the actions and reactions of others to keep me focused.

The letters, were written not as a way to point out the wrongs of others, but for the believer (those who call themselves christians) to make sure their lives are on the up and up when it comes to their walk with Jesus.

The fourth letter is to what God refers to as “The Corrupt Church…”

Revelation 2:18-29

18 “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write, ‘These things says the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass: 19 “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. 23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works. 24 “Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have this doctrine, who have not known the depths of Satan, as they say, I will put on you no other burden.25 But hold fast what you have till I come. 26 And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations — 27 ‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron; They shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’ — as I also have received from My Father; 28 and I will give him the morning star. 29 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’

As I read over this set of verses, I realized that it was going to be a tough one to cover, nevertheless I am praying for guidance from the Sweet Holy Spirit.

According to The Lord, the church in Thyatira was capable of so much good work for God’s Eternal Kingdom. The people loved God, and had a heart for service, but… They allowed this thing to have her hands in the mix.

Mary and I found ourselves in a situation a while back where we had to temporarally work with such great people. We were approached by this self proclaimed prophetess and immediately I was reminded in my spirit of another instance where the spirit of Jezebel ran amuck in a church.

The first thing I told Mary was that, “if you have to call yourself a prophet, more than likely, you are NOT a prophet. The existence of certain fruit will bare witness to the fact.” And this woman bore no fruit…

I would watch the pastor and congregation’s faces as they would desire the move of God, and every time he would touch on certain subjects, she would call him out in service telling him, “now watch your words, pastor…” She even had him out on witch hunts chasing down the “spirit of Jezebel” in other members of the congregation.

It was really sad to see, and my first thoughts were that she was the reason 1 Corinthians 14:34 was written.

During that time, I was going through a physical affliction and was very vocal about how I would not see a doctor but allow Jesus who is my Great Physician to deliver and heal me. She quickly zeroed in on me and constantly told me in a pious way that she couldn’t do that, and that she had to go to the doctor. One time she bragged of how the doctor removed a section of gangrene from her belly, and verse 22 in Revelation 2 came to mind.

It truly was a sad situation… but I learned a lot about certain aspects of this verse.

God’s ways are perfect and Jesus Himself described how perfect God’s ways were when He made the statement that to look to lust is to commit adultery. Scripture also tells us that to lie is to steal, to hate is to murder, and to approve of is to also do. We want to look at what we call the “big sins” in others and pass over the small ones in ourselves.

If you allow and teach things that are unscriptural as being ok (yet you don’t actually do them), you have in fact actually done them. Consider this, if you teach that it is ok to be gay, you are judged by God as being gay even if you have never actually done the physical act.

But to be honest, sexual sin goes much deeper than just a little fornicating. I will make some statements in this blog that might be hard to swallow (if you are choking already, get you a glass of water and prayerfully read on), but they are truth. As per verse 24, you might need to understand the “depths of Satan…”

This Jezebel was allowed to teach things that Jesus called sexually immoral and to partake of things offered to other gods. Let me first explain God’s Heart. Israel was often referred to as “adulterous” by God because they cheated on Him with other gods, and withheld intimacy from Him in the form of personal relationship.

That’s right, if you are married and you withhold intimacy (spiritually, mentally and physically) from your spouse, you are being unfaithful and in fact are an adulteress. This also goes with offering your intimacy (spirit, soul and body) to someone other than your spouse. If then, Jesus considers you His bride, and you withhold any area of your being, His considers it an unfaithful action.

So to teach people to trust in anything other in God Almighty, is to teach impurity. God considered those who embraced her teaching, the same as committing adultery with her. Can you see how much deeper this goes than simple fornication? This is not just a carnal act, but a spiritual one as well. If it were not truth, Jesus wouldn’t need to remind them that He also “searches the minds and hearts” of His people.

One of the things I had to stay focused on during this Job-esque Affliction, was that this was not God’s doing, and that I had to forsake everything and fully trust in Him. I still have people look at me like I am an idiot when I say that I haven’t gone to the doctors, but I am an idiot that has separated myself from the Jezebels and decided to trust 100% in my Lord God Jesus Christ.

Give me the eternal rewards of God, than the fading approval of men.

Lord God, I struggle and am tired at times. I fuss, whine and complain at the sinful failings of my body. But God, I trust You, and You alone do I put my confidence. Help me Lord; forgive my sins and lift me up. Help me to overcome till the end, for I can do all things through you who gives me the strength to do so.

Holy Spirit, as you bring life to this mortal body, I ask that You also help me to renew my mind. My desire is to be totally 100% faithful to You.

You are a Great God, and I love You!!!
