Who Is God

Hosea 4:6 – My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.
So many people get this out of context. It is not a scripture telling us to gain worldly wisdom, or to try to understand the world around us.
Knowledge here is to know who God is, and to have a relationship with Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
We are told to trust and know Him. When you really know someone, you know if they are trustworthy. If you knew who God really is, you would have faith in Him.
Romans 1:18-31 is all about those who know God and who He is, but refuse to believe Him (faith), follow Him (obedience), and therefore try to change Him to fit their desires (sinful behavior). So you have a choice.
When you know who God is, you understand the words “I will…” When you read in the Old Testament the words (spoken by God in punishment) “I will” you would also know that those words are not active verbs, but they are passive ones. You should see them as “I will allow…”
When you read about Gods wrath or jealousy, you would understand that He is not angry at you, but at what has happened to you; God is not jealous for what you have, but He is jealous and doesn’t want to share you with sin. Sin after all, is separation from Him.
Back to Hosea 4:6
When you take the time to know God and who He is, you could read Hosea 4:6 like this…
“My people are destroyed because they don’t know Me. Because you have rejected a relationship with me, you will not be able to tell who I am or have my permission to do so. Because you have not remembered who I am, I am forced to allow even your children to grow up not knowing me.”
When you choose to trust God as well as know Him, you would read Hosea 4:6 like this…
“When I forget to develop my relationship with God (given to me only by Jesus Christ), by reading His Word, praying to Him, and obeying Him, my life becomes a mess and full of chaos. I become unable to effectively tell others about Him (in fact He doesn’t want me to tell things about Him that are untrue), and because I become unable to tell others about Him, even my children will be raised not knowing who He is.”
Allow yourself to get to know who He is, believe Him, and obey Him. Don’t try to be like the person who claims to be a christian (Just like Christ), but has no idea who He is and because they don’t know who He is, they try to make Jesus like who they want Him to be.
That is just bad relationship skills messing with your eternity.
