Read It Backwards

Sometimes, if you want to gain a better understanding of what a scripture is saying, you can read it in reverse order. As I saw a post on Facebook today, this one scripture was highlighted to me by the Holy Spirit, as one I needed to read backwards.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 tells us, “But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” NKJV

The NIV puts it like this, “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.”

When we restate it in reverse order, God is mapping to us how difficult and perilous times come to us.

Allow me to restate it for you…

“Have nothing to do with this kind of person, and turn away from them. Those that seem to have God, but don’t allow His power to take charge of their life. These kinds of people love their own fleshly pleasure and comfort more than they love God. This is because they are conceited, haughty and proud.

Because they are conceited, they behave rashly, are headstrong, stubborn, are treacherous, and traitors to those who trust them, they hate what is good. Hating good causes them to set aside self-control, and they start to become lying, back-biting, slanderous, unforgiving, unloving, unholy, and ungrateful to those who love them. They especially turn on and abuse those who love and gave them the most… like their parents who they will not listen too advice or instruction (and even God because they blame Him and blaspheme Him).

When they have turned on those who care the most about them, they become more proud. They brag on how great and righteous they are, how much more money they can make, and how they can do better than those who helped them. They put themselves over everything else, don’t lift a finger to help others, and have compassion no deeper than their ankles.

Because these kinds of people love themselves more than anything else, there will be difficult, terrible and perilous time ahead. Mark My Words on this and believe it” ~ God

Here are 2 other verses that will bare witness to what I just typed…

Ezekiel 16:48-50 As I live,” says the Lord God, “neither your sister Sodom nor her daughters have done as you and your daughters have done. Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty and committed abomination before Me; therefore I took them away as I saw fit.”

Isaiah 3:8-11 For Jerusalem stumbled, And Judah is fallen, Because their tongue and their doings are against the Lord, to provoke the eyes of His glory. The look on their countenance witnesses against them, and they declare their sin as Sodom; They do not hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have brought evil upon themselves. “Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for the reward of his hands shall be given him.”

I have said it before and I will say it again…

As the difficult times come, it is not being judgmental to have nothing to do with those living the attitudes listed in 2 Timothy 3, but it is a commandment from God. I do not have to accept your rebellious lifestyle, nor do I have to allow you to live it in my living room. I know who my protector and provider is, and The Lord’s Word is final.
